I grew up in Russia and moved to the States for college. I'm a vet tech and I work three long shifts a week, which leaves me four days for pet sitting. Anxious, older or poorly pets are where I'm most useful.
I can also bring in the post, water plants and open and close curtains, so the house looks lived in while you're away.
I have a car, so vet trips are no problem if they're ever needed.
